📜 コース概要 Course Objective/Course Overview

本授業は、生成系AIやデジタル技術を活用しながら、英語リーディングを中心に、総合的な英語能力（受容Reception、産出Production、やりとりinteraction、仲介mediation）を高めることを目標とします。また、簡単なリーディングを通して、実用的且つ基礎的な文法・語法に関する知識を得て、総合的なアカデミックイングリッシュを身につけるための基礎を固めることを目的とします。母語以外の言葉を学ぶことで、自分のなかの世界観に決定的な質的転換が生じます。そのような世界観の質的転換を起こすための出発点と位置づけます。

具体的な目標は以下です。

1. 受容能力の強化:
   • 音声を聞きながら読む訓練を行い、文字処理と音声処理を統合したリーディング能力を強化します。そこでは正確さも要求されますが、まずは音声情報と文字情報を合致させる能力を高め、同時にまとまった文字情報の趣旨をすばやく理解する訓練もおこない、その精度を上げていきます。
2. 総合的な語彙力の獲得:
   • 意味情報のみに焦点を当てた語彙学習から脱却し、音声情報・意味情報・統語情報（文法）を総合した語彙能力の獲得を目指します。
3. 日本語の知識を活かした英語習得:
   • 日本語による背景知識を活用し、日本語語彙を英語語彙と対比して、その違いを理解し、英語における情報処理能力の強化を目指します。日本の英語教育ではタブー視されることもあったカタカナ表記を用いた発音習得も含め、多言語能力（plurilingualism）の観点から英語習得を促進します。
4. 自立した学習者への転換:
   • 様々な学習ツールを活用し、上述の各目標に注意を払いつつ、自立して学習できるようになることを目指します。

以上に加えて、英語を実生活で使う能力（音声と文字で理解して伝えるなど、やりとり能力）も向上させ、そのための学習スキルを身につけることも目標とします。英文字を見るだけでも吐き気がする程度に嫌いになってしまっているのであれば、無理やり好きになる必要はありませんが、少なくとも文字・音声情報の内容を理解できるところまで持っていき、必要な時に読める・書ける・聞ける・話せる、とにかく実際の場面で使えるようにすることも目的とします。そこでは、高校までに染みついてしまった「解くための英語」から脱却し、実際に通じる使える英語を目指します。更に、語学習得において弊害になっている可能性がある固定観念も少しずつ変えてもらいます。そのことによって日本語や母語のみでは入らない情報を手にいれる術も身につけます。また、間違ったり、通じない状況になった場合、必要に応じて言い換える、もう一度聞き直すなどコミュニケーションを円滑にするための能力も高め、自分の言語能力をメタ認知できるようにするための基礎を固めます。

This course aims to strengthen comprehensive English skills (Reception, Production, Interaction, Mediation) with a focus on English reading, using generative AI and digital technologies. The objective is to acquire practical and fundamental grammatical and lexical knowledge through simple reading exercises, laying the foundation for comprehensive Academic English. Learning a language other than one's mother tongue can lead to a transformative shift in worldview, and this course aims to be the starting point for such a transformation.

The specific objectives are as follows:

1. Strengthen Reception Abilities:
   • Level up reading skills by integrating text processing with audio comprehension, beginning with the ability to quickly understand the gist of spoken and written information, and increasing accuracy over time.
2. Develop Comprehensive Vocabulary Skills:
   • Move beyond vocabulary learning focused solely on translated information and aim to acquire vocabulary skills that integrate phonetic, semantic, and syntactic (grammatical) information.
3. Leverage Japanese Knowledge for English Learning:
   • Use background knowledge from Japanese to compare with English vocabulary, understand the differences, and enhance the ability to process information in English. This includes improving pronunciation using katakana notation, a method often avoided in Japanese English education, and promoting English acquisition from a plurilingual perspective.
4. Transition to Autonomous Learners:
   • Use various learning tools to become independent learners, paying attention to the objectives mentioned above.

In addition to the above, this course also aims to improve the skills to use English in real-life situations (such as understanding and conveying information through spoken and written information in English) and to acquire the necessary learning skills for this purpose. If you have come to dislike English to the point of feeling nauseous just by looking at letters and phrases in English, there is no need to force yourself to like it, but at least the goal is to understand written and spoken information and be able to read, write, listen, and speak when necessary. This includes moving away from the "English for solving entry-exam for universities in Japan" mindset ingrained during high school education and aiming for truly communicative English. Furthermore, we aim to gradually change any fixed notions that may be detrimental to language learning, enabling access to information not available through Japanese or other native languages alone. The course will also strengthen language skill to smooth communication, such as paraphrasing or asking for clarification when misunderstandings occur and establish a foundation for meta-cognitive awareness of your language skills.

本授業を受講する学生は、

1. 語学学習の心構え、英語はなぜ世界言語の一つになったか、そのメリット・デメリットはなにか、これからどのような学習スキルが必要かなどの根本的知識を獲得し、説明することができるようになる。
2. 音声と文字情報を一致させ、音声情報を聞いて理解する、文字情報を読んで理解する能力を磨く。
3. 音声と文字で理解した内容を、英語で端的に伝える、情報を共有する能力を向上させる。
4. 意味情報のみに焦点を当てた語彙学習から脱却し、音声情報・意味情報・統語情報を総合した語彙能力の獲得、実際に使える形での文法・語法を身につける。
5. 日本語の知識を活かして、英語と日本語を対比させることで、より効果的に英語学習ができるようになる。
6. カタカナ表記を用いた発音習得にも注力し、多言語能力の観点からリスニング能力を向上させ、更には通じる発声方法、抑揚、発音を習得する。
7. 自分の最初のレベル、例えばCEFR、A2（日常的な範囲なら、身近で日常の事柄についての情報交換に対応することができる）からスタートし、B1、できればB2を目指すための学習スキルを取得する。
8. 授業内で担当教員のアドバイス、コーチングでフィードバックを得て、自身の英語能力を向上させるための自己評価、改善させるための能力を向上させる。
9. 様々なツールを使い、自律的な学習ができるようになる。

Students enrolling in this course will:

1. Acquire and explain fundamental knowledge about the mindset for language learning, why English has become a global language, advantages and disadvantages of English being a global language, and what learning skills will be necessary for a future.
2. Polish the ability to align audio and text information to understand spoken and written English.
3. Improve the skill to concisely communicate what you want to say in English and to share information.
4. Move beyond vocabulary learning focused solely on translated information, to acquire vocabulary skills integrating phonetic, semantic, and syntactic information and practical grammar and vocabulary.
5. Use knowledge of Japanese to contrast with English, enhancing effective English learning.
6. Focus on pronunciation using katakana notation, improve listening skills from a multilingual perspective, and acquire communicable vocalization techniques, intonation, and speed.
7. Start from your initial level, such as CEFR A2, and acquire learning skills to aim for B1 and ideally B2.
8. Obtain feedback from the instructor's advice and coaching to enhance self-evaluation and improve English proficiency.
9. Become a life-long learner using various tools.
